Compliant Onboarding by Video KYC
Video KYC (vKYC / V-CIP) software for regulated onboarding — verify customers over a live or guided video session with identity-document checks, liveness, and a complete, time-stamped recording for audit.
Remote Onboarding That Regulators Accept
Video KYC — also called vKYC or Video-based Customer Identification Process (V-CIP) — verifies a customer's identity through a video interaction instead of an in-person branch visit. It pairs the assurance of seeing a live customer with the speed and reach of digital onboarding.
One Constellation supports both assisted vKYC (a trained agent conducts the session) and unassisted, automated video flows. Each session captures the customer's ID, runs document and liveness checks, confirms a face match, and stores a tamper-evident recording with full audit metadata — satisfying regulators who require a video-based identification option.
Everything a Compliant Video KYC Needs
Assisted and automated video onboarding with the checks and evidence regulators expect.
Assisted & Unassisted vKYC
Run agent-led video sessions or fully automated video flows from one platform.
In-Session Document Capture
Capture and authenticate the customer's ID live during the session.
Liveness & Face Match
Confirm a real, present person and match them to their verified document.
Geo-Tag & Time-Stamp
Record location and time metadata where required by local rules.
Tamper-Evident Recording
Store the full session recording with an immutable audit trail.
Agent Queue & Scheduling
Manage agent availability, queues and scheduled sessions at scale.
How a Video KYC Session Runs
Initiate
The customer starts a video session from your branded portal or app — on demand or scheduled.
Verify Identity
ID document is captured and authenticated live; liveness confirms the customer is real and present.
Face Match & Questions
The customer's face is matched to the document and any required confirmations are completed on camera.
Record & Decide
The session is recorded with audit metadata and a verified / refer decision is logged for compliance.
Why Firms Choose Video KYC
Onboard Anyone, Anywhere
Replace branch visits with compliant remote onboarding across markets.
Meet V-CIP Rules
Satisfy regulators that require a video-based identification option.
Higher-Assurance Verification
Live video plus liveness raises assurance for higher-risk onboarding.
Defensible Audit Evidence
Every session is recorded and logged for inspection and dispute resolution.
Assisted or Unassisted: Choosing the Right Mode
Assisted video KYC puts a trained agent on the call. It suits regimes that require an official to conduct the session, higher-risk customers, and cases where the agent's observations form part of the evidence. Unassisted flows let the customer complete a guided session without an agent, which scales better and works across time zones, but may not satisfy rules that require live human involvement.
In an assisted session, agents typically:
- confirm the customer's consent to the session being recorded;
- ask the customer to show the ID and move it so its security features are visible;
- compare the person on camera with the document photograph;
- ask questions that confirm the customer is present, acting freely and not being coached;
- record any concern and escalate it rather than decide alone.
A risk-based policy decides which customers take which route — for example, sending politically exposed persons or customers from higher-risk jurisdictions to an assisted session.
Where Video KYC Is Recognised
Regulators take two approaches to video identification. Some publish dedicated rules. India's Reserve Bank introduced the Video-based Customer Identification Process (V-CIP) in January 2020 through its Master Direction on KYC, with requirements that include a live session conducted by a trained official, liveness checks, geo-tagging of the customer's location and a time-stamped recording kept with the customer record. Germany's BaFin sets out detailed requirements for video identification, including checks of the document's optical security features during the call.
Most other regimes, including the UK and Singapore, treat video as one way of meeting their general rules for non-face-to-face customer due diligence rather than requiring it. There, video earns its place for higher-risk segments, for customers who cannot complete a fully automated check, and wherever a firm wants a human judgement on record.
Whatever the regime, the evidence matters as much as the session itself: the recording, the identity checks performed and the decision should be retained with the customer file — for at least five years under FATF Recommendation 11, and longer where local rules require.
